| The Quartz pictured here is the basis of the huge letters you see on the top of the Mountain. Each letter is about 10 metres high and as much as 2 tonnes of quartz are required to complete each letter. Quartz is the purest form of all rocks. Its chemical composition is SiO2, has a hardness of 6.5 and is a transparent rock. It only appears white due to the fractures within the rock that happened whilst it was being mined for its Gold content. | |
