| In the middle of The
Esses is The Dipper, where many vertical metres can be dropped in a short
stretch of the track. Here, momentum usually lifts the car's inside wheels
clear of the ground before drivers exit The Dipper in second gear, accelerating
hard before Forrest's Elbow.
During the infamous 1984 race, Queenslander
John English nearly ended his life here in lap 34 when his Falcon removed
a huge chunk of concrete from the wall below The Dipper. English was fortunate
to survive the crash, although the same could not be said of his car. |
